Loved! Such a great summer read! The setting。 The nostalgia。 The characters。 The epilogue。 Loved it the whole way through。 One of my top books of the year so far。 It just made me happy。
Briel,
As a huge fan of Dirty Dancing, I was so excited to read this book based on the promotional blurbs。 In actuality, I didn’t think it had much in common with Dirty Dancing other than the setting, which for the most part, appears in a sad and dilapidated state and not like the grandeur in the iconic movie。 I enjoyed the book while I was reading it, but I didn’t exactly rush to pick it back up again。 The multiple perspectives were fun but I wasn’t entirely invested in most of the characters’ persona As a huge fan of Dirty Dancing, I was so excited to read this book based on the promotional blurbs。 In actuality, I didn’t think it had much in common with Dirty Dancing other than the setting, which for the most part, appears in a sad and dilapidated state and not like the grandeur in the iconic movie。 I enjoyed the book while I was reading it, but I didn’t exactly rush to pick it back up again。 The multiple perspectives were fun but I wasn’t entirely invested in most of the characters’ personal stories as I wanted to know more about the Hotel。 Overall, I couldn’t help feeling a little depressed by the whole thing。 I don’t mind being depressed when I’m expecting it but I went into this thinking it was going to be a little more uplifting and fun。 I do think it would make a good movie as the author has some great physical comedy scenes that just scream for a screen。 I also didn’t love how the younger generation was portrayed as being far superior in worthiness/helpfulness as compared to the older generations - it felt a little ageist, actually。 As a book, it just wasn’t a win for me。 Not a loss either, just not a favorite, and I’m still giving it a chance for redemption as a movie。 。。。more

[3。5/5]A light read that explores interesting family dynamics, the impact of nostalgia, and the idea of legacy。 There were times when some of the descriptions of influencer culture, queerness, and generational politics made me cringe a bit, and I also felt like the story could have been a bit longer in order to flesh out some of the characters more, but this is an all-around enjoyable book that was fun to read。
Mom,
The two owning families of the aging, Golden Hotel gather to decide the fate of the Catskills institution where countless Jewish families have vacationed。 An extremely entertaining summer read in the vein of The Marvelous Mrs。 Maisel, this account of the two families relationships is full of heart and great characters。
Sandy,
I really enjoyed this one。 So much dry humor and laugh out loud moments。 A great story of generations of two families that own the Golden Hotel。 Has time passed them by where people and should they sell or stay and renovate for the future generations? Great character development; some very quirky ones。 I especially liked the grandparent generation; lots of humorous verbiage。 Julia Whelan, a favorite, narrated the audio。 She’s is always spot on!
Sarah Louise,
With the setting compared to Dirty Dancing, I had to give this one a try。 Built in 1960, The Golden Hotel was once a hot commodity in the Catskills for a summer retreat。 As more modern accommodations threaten the success of the family-owned hotel, the Goldmans and Weingolds must unite to decide its fate。This was a really fun, hilarious, family drama! Told in multiple perspectives spanning across two families and three generations, it was a battle of traditional and modern views。 I adored the variety of narratives, each filled with their own memories of The Golden Hotel。 And the family tree provided at the beginning was such a great addition! As secrets unveil, I couldn’t stop reading about this dysfunctional family pairing。 With the hotel in present day an absolute hazard, it was a tad unrealistic they were still in business, but I can’t deny the laughs it gave。 If you love a juicy family drama, this would make a great summer read! 。。。more

If this hadn’t been a book club pick I would have moved it to DNF by the end of chapter 4。 The writing isn’t horrible, but I didn’t care about any of the characters one bit。 Poor little rich folks and their difficult decisions about moving around their millions, and petty tabloid scandals。 The worst part was that whole paragraph where the guy thought the ceiling was leaking and then suddenly realized those were his tears from crying 🤮 No one doesn’t realize they’re crying。 You know you’re going If this hadn’t been a book club pick I would have moved it to DNF by the end of chapter 4。 The writing isn’t horrible, but I didn’t care about any of the characters one bit。 Poor little rich folks and their difficult decisions about moving around their millions, and petty tabloid scandals。 The worst part was that whole paragraph where the guy thought the ceiling was leaking and then suddenly realized those were his tears from crying 🤮 No one doesn’t realize they’re crying。 You know you’re going to cry before the tears come。 And what was the point of Scott? I was sucked in by the cover and the Dirty Dancing similarities。 This was a Book of the Month pick and I would use these words to describe: nostalgic, emotional, sweet, funny ( but not really。。。 More like cute and trying to be funny), full of reliving past experiences and memories, lots of family drama but not super heavy。This was okay and not my usual genre but it's a nice palette cleanser。 There was nothing wrong with the book。 It was fast paced and interesting。 It's just not my thing。 I was sucked in by the cover and the Dirty Dancing similarities。 This was a Book of the Month pick and I would use these words to describe: nostalgic, emotional, sweet, funny ( but not really。。。 More like cute and trying to be funny), full of reliving past experiences and memories, lots of family drama but not super heavy。This was okay and not my usual genre but it's a nice palette cleanser。 There was nothing wrong with the book。 It was fast paced and interesting。 It's just not my thing。 。。。more

Back in the day, the Golden Hotel in the Catskills was the "go-to" resort for families in the summer。 The resort is owned by 2 families; the Goldmans and the Weingolds。 Currently the hotel is in major disrepair and the families have been approached to sell the place to a company who wants to transform it into a casino。 The story is told in alternating timelines and I did find the family chart at the beginning of the book to be helpful so I could keep track of all of the characters。There's plenty Back in the day, the Golden Hotel in the Catskills was the "go-to" resort for families in the summer。 The resort is owned by 2 families; the Goldmans and the Weingolds。 Currently the hotel is in major disrepair and the families have been approached to sell the place to a company who wants to transform it into a casino。 The story is told in alternating timelines and I did find the family chart at the beginning of the book to be helpful so I could keep track of all of the characters。There's plenty of family drama between the 2 families as well as within the individual families。 As I read the book, I envisioned the resort as it's depicted on the "marvelous Mrs Maisel" television show。 This is a very entertaining, summer read! 。。。more
